বাড়ির লোকজন টাকার চিন্তায় অস্থির । এই দুই দিনের মধ্যে কী করে এতো টাকা জোগাড় করা সম্ভব । আমিও খুব দূঃচিন্তায় পড়ে গেলাম । আবার কখনো ভাবছি - " যেহেতু টাকা জোগাড় হচ্ছে না, তবে চাকরির আশা করে লাভ নেই " । এই সব কথা ভাবতেই আবার মনে পড়ে যায় কলকাতা দিয়ে আসা সেই পঞ্চাশ হাজার টাকার । যদি চাকরীতে জোয়েন্ট না করি তাহলে পঞ্চাশ হাজার টাকা শোধ করব কী করে ?
এই সব কথা ভাবতেই হঠাৎ আমার মোবাইল বেজে ওঠে। কল রিসিভ করলে জানতে পারি আমার বড় পিসির ছেলে উদয় কল করেছে । সে আমাকে বলে - " তোর কী কোথাও সম্বন্ধ হয়ে গেছে " ? আমি উত্তর দিই - "না , এখনো কোথাও সম্বন্ধ তৈরি হয়নি " । সে আমাকে বলে - " তুই জামাইবাবুকে নিয়ে কালিয়াগঞ্জ রসিদপুর এ চলে আয় । আমি এখানে আছি " । আমি বললাম - ঠিক আছে, এই বলে কল কেটে দিলাম । আমি বুঝতে পারলাম যে - সে আমাকে মেয়ে দেখাতে নিয়ে যাবে । আমি দেরি না করে বাইকে চেপে অনন্ত জামাইবাবুকে নিয়ে কালিয়াগঞ্জ রওনা দিই । কিন্তু মাঝ রাস্তায় অনন্ত জামাইবাবু বলে - আগে তুই বরুনা হামিদপুরে চল । আমি তাঁর কথামতো বাইক হামিদপুরের দিকে ঘোরাই । হামিদপুর পৌঁছালে সে আমাকে বাইক থামাতে বলে এবং এপয়েন্টমেন্ট লেটার সঙ্গে নিয়ে তাঁর পিছু পিছু যেতে বলে । আমি তাঁর কথামতো কাজ করি । সে আমাকে নিয়ে এক ভদ্রলোকের বাড়িতে ঢুকলাম । জামাইবাবু এপয়েন্টমেন্ট লেটার সেই ভদ্রলোকের হাতে দিয়ে বলে - " দেখেন তো সব কিছু ঠিকঠাক আছে কি না " । ভদ্রলোক এপয়েন্টমেন্ট লেটার হাতে নিয়ে দেখে বলে - " হ্যাঁ, সব কিছুই তো ঠিক আছে " । তারপর তিনি আমাকে এপয়েন্টমেন্ট লেটার ফিরিয়ে দেন । আমরা ভদ্রলোকের কাছে বিদায় নিয়ে বাইকে চেপে চলতে শুরু করি ।
বাইক চলাকালীন আমি জামাইবাবুকে জিঙ্গাসা করে জানতে পারলাম ভদ্রলোকের পরিচয় । তিনি পেশায় একজন প্রাইমারী স্কুলের শিক্ষক । কিছুক্ষণ পরে আমরা কালিয়াগঞ্জ রসিদপুর এ পৌঁছে । উদয় দাকে কল করি এবং সে আমাদের নিয়ে যেতে আসে । তারপরে সে আমাদেরকে একটি মধ্যবিত্ত পরিবারের বাড়িতে নিয়ে যায় । আমরা সোফায় বসে মেয়ের বাবা ও কাকার সঙ্গে কথা বার্তা বলছিলাম ।
এমন সময় একজন সুন্দরী মেয়ে হাতে চায়ের ট্রে নিয়ে উপস্থিত হয় । আমি মেয়েকে দেখে মুগ্ধ হয়ে যাই । মেয়ে চলে গেলে আমি সবার সামনে বলে দিই - "মেয়ে আমার পছন্দ হয়েছে কিন্তু আমাকে আপনাদের কেমন লেগেছে" । মেয়ের বাবা বললেন - " আমাদের সকলেরই তোমাকে পছন্দ হয়েছে " । এরপর লেনদেনের ব্যাপারে আমি ৩৫০০০০ ( তিন লাখ পঞ্চাশ হাজার ) টাকা দাবি করি । মেয়ের বাবা টাকা দিতে রাজী হয়ে যায় এবং বলে তাহলে আগামীকাল রেজিস্ট্রি বিয়ে কমপ্লিট দিয়ে ২০০০০০ (দুই লাখ) টাকা দেব আর বাকী বিয়ের আগে । তারপর মেয়ের বাবা আমার কাছে এপয়েন্টমেন্ট লেটার এর জেরক্স চায় । আমি মেয়ের বাবাকে এপয়েন্টমেন্ট লেটারের জেরক্স দিয়ে আমরা বিদায় নিই । পরের দিন ..................................।
